DEXA scan
DXA (DEXA) Scans

We offer DXA (DEXA) scans from a range of locations to both NHS and Private Patients.

Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) scans are the ‘gold standard’ for measuring body composition, particularly bone mineral density. Bone mineral density measurement will provide information on the strength of your bones and whether you have or are likely to develop osteoporosis. Using the measurement and details of your lifestyle, the scan can also give a prediction of the risk of a hip or other major fracture.

Total body DXA scans can also be used to measure the amount of bone, fat and muscle in the body and is used by professional athletes to help optimise performance.

DXA scans are available at selected sites in Sussex.

About DXA Scans

A DXA scan (sometimes referred to as a DEXA scan) is a type of X-ray. These scans are more effective than a standard X-ray at measuring low bone mineral density.

DXA uses two different energy very low dose X-ray beams through the body. One is absorbed by the soft tissues and the other by the bone mass. This calculates the actual bone density and provides the information on the health of your bones and your risk of osteoporosis.
