NICE Recommends Specialist MRI Scans, Before Biopsies.

In its latest guidelines the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended that all men with suspected prostate cancer should be offered a specialist MRI scan when they’re referred to hospital, before a biopsy.

Dr Phil Thompson, Consultant General and Interventional Radiologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust says:

‘I am delighted that NICE have recommended pre-biopsy mpMRI for men with suspected prostate cancer, in order to reduce unnecessary biopsies and improve detection of clinically significant cancers. I look forward to working with MIP to help make these specialist scans more widely available to the men who need them.’
