DEXA scan
DEXA Scans

We offer DEXA scans from a range of locations to both NHS and Private Patients.

Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scans are the “gold standard” for measuring body composition, particularly bone mineral density. They’re often used to help diagnose bone-related health problems, such as osteoporosis, or to assess the risk of getting them.

Total body bone density scans can also be used to measure the amount of bone, fat and muscle in the body and is used by professional athletes to help optimise performance.

DEXA scans are available at some of our centres in Sussex and at Medical Imaging London.

About DEXA Scans

A DEXA scan (sometimes referred to as a DXA scan) is a type of X-ray. These scans are more effective than a standard X-ray at measuring low bone mineral density.

During a scan, X-rays are passed through the body and are absorbed by bone and soft tissue. Detectors measure how much radiation passes through the bone, allowing the Radiologist to see the density.
